Prior Art Search
This customized search service is normally engaged as a defense against a patent
infringement accusation. You determine the scope of the search:
- choose either US or worldwide
- which claims of the subject patent or patents you want to defend against
- include patents only or public domain materials as well
The first phase of this search is a review of subject patent and its history to establish
the effective invention date, application date, define terms and so on.
The second phase is searching through existing patents for prior art.
The third phase is reviewing public domain materials. An exhaustive search is made
as this is often the most fruitful portion of the search process from a defense
point of view.
When searching public domain materials, we include periodicals, marketing materials,
speeches, white papers, newspapers, technical documentation, presentations, dissertations,
government publications, and more.
Upon completing the search a Clearly Understood Search Coordinator will contact
you and review the search results report. The report will list the sources of information
searched and a list of all relevant information discovered together with copies
of the information. A CD or DVD will be provided to you that will contain a copy
of the search results report.
