| Concept Search
A Concept Search is an inventor's IDEA or CONCEPT compared to the USPTO database. Our web-based service compares your idea to the descriptions and abstracts portions of the entire USPTO database.
This type of search is normally used when a company or inventor wants to know if a similar concept has already been patented.
You will enter a concept description into our web-based search system. Usually within one business day, you will receive email notification that the search results have been completed and are ready for your review.
The patent research results will list potentially relevant patents together with copies of those patents.
Examples
- Someone has an idea for a new type of bicycle and wants to know if a similar idea has already been patented.
- A company has an idea for a new process of developing film and wants to know if a similar idea has already been patented.
